Who we are

The Institute for Development and Human Rights (IDDH) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to expanding social participation, decentralizing political advocacy, and promoting the implementation of national and international human rights policies in Brazil and Latin America.

Our goal is to transform international commitments and recommendations into concrete actions on the ground. To this end, we strengthen institutional spaces and expand political advocacy in these processes, ensuring the monitoring and effective implementation of human rights.

Our approach

We focus on Human Rights Education (HRE), a continuous process of training that aims to promote tolerance, respect for the dignity of all people, and ensure the means to guarantee these values in all societies (A/RES/59/113).

With the IDDH Way of Educating, our own methodology that combines theory and practice, we train defenders, educators, and activists to act in defense of human rights, both in their territories and in international spaces, offering knowledge and tools for their ethical and responsible application.

global action, local impact

We coordinate the Coletivo RPU Brasil and the Colectivo EPU de América del Sur, connecting international commitments to the realities on the ground. In addition, we are part of strategic networks such as the Civil Society Working Group for the 2030 Agenda, the Plataforma Dhesca Brasil, and the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning in Geneva.

The IDDH was founded in 2004, in the context of the launch of the World Program for Human Rights Education (PMEDH) and Brazil's first National Plan for Human Rights Education. Since the beginning, our mission has been to increase the participation of Brazilian organizations in international spaces, contributing to the implementation of global guidelines for the promotion and defense of human rights.
