The document presents a proposal to strengthen social participation in the monitoring and implementation of international human rights obligations through National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting and Follow-up (NMIRFs). As a result of a study carried out by the Institute for Development and Human Rights (IDDH) and considering impressions and perceptions of Latin American civil society collected over five years, the proposal suggests instruments and procedures for consultation and dialogue with civil society and outlines key points of attention considered important for the maintenance and effective functioning of NMIRFs, in accordance with the principle of democratic participation.
