The Institute for Development and Human Rights (IDDH) has been officially recognized as a Consultative Observer of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). The decision was made during the Ordinary Meeting of the Community’s Council of Ministers, held on July 18, 2025, in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
With this new status, the IDDH joins a privileged space for multilateral cooperation and dialogue. The organization aims to contribute to expanding channels for coordination among civil society, governments, and national human rights institutions, fostering the exchange of experiences, institutional strengthening, and the strategic use of international UN mechanisms, such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The expectation is that this engagement will further enhance the development of practices and methodologies for monitoring and implementing international human rights recommendations, both at the national level and across the Global South.
The recognition by the CPLP reaffirms the relevance of the work that the IDDH has been carrying out for over 20 years, promoting training, networking, and advocacy in human rights in Brazil and Latin America.
The IDDH team celebrates this new milestone with enthusiasm and renews its commitment to continue actively collaborating to promote more equitable, just, and participatory societies, in alignment with the values that unite Portuguese-speaking countries.
